DAY 260 – TRUST THE GRACE OF GOD FOR VICTORY IN THIS LIFE

“For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin. For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.” (Romans 7:14-15)

Apostle Paul discusses with us three important lessons that he learned in trying to deal with his sinful desires:

1.   Knowledge of the law and trying to keep observe it is not the answer to sin. “I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died”. (Romans 7:9)

Paul was doing well as long as he did not understand the demands of the law. When he learned about the law and its demands, he became a slave and knew he was doomed and had come to the end of the world.

2.   Self-effort or struggling in one’s own strength is not the remedy. “For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I   do not practice; but what I hate, that I do”. (Romans 7:15) 

Paul found himself sinning in ways that he could not understand or have control over.  

3.   Becoming a Christian does not flush out all sin and all weaknesses from a person’s life.

Being born again takes a moment of faith but becoming Christ-like is a process. 

Friends let us depend on the grace of God for our victory in this life. Do not depend on self-effort or self-determination. Surrender to Christ entirely, and receive His life-giving Spirit. Jesus is Lord!

Today’s Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus,
I pray that I will be strengthened to stand against every sin and temptation. Sanctify me daily. I present my body as a living sacrifice to You. Separate me for Holy use. My body shall not be defiled. I shall not bow down to the slave master again. Strengthen me in Your power. I submit under the Spirit of grace. I no longer walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. In Jesus’ Name. Amen!
